Holy crap, a car related post from me. This is a bit of a spin off of a similar question from a few days ago. It’s been spinning through my head so I thought I’d throw it out there. What car did you love but don’t anymore.
For me it’s the current generation Corvette. When I first saw the car, I was enamored. And it’s still a great car. It’s just really lost its initial wow factor and I see then everywhere. Especially in dull colors and convertible. How about the rest of you?

Anything that starts out looking sort of special, but then suddenly appears everywhere. It’s like that secret Russian diamond vault flooding the market with bling. You lose the rarity.
Ford Fusion.

Old muscle cars used to be all I cared about. Especially since my dad would take me to those gatherings and shows all the time. I still like them but I’m getting more into “newer” things. Cars like that yellow Porsche 911 in the McQueen video on Jalopnik today, F-Type, and new Corvette.

It’s just the opposite for me on the E46 M3...was never a big fan of this car until recently.

m3 is the biggest culprit here. they made about 37 e30’s, 100 or so e36s, and probably 745 million e46s. plus they got bloated.

Same. It's not that I don't care about muscle cars anymore, but that I can appreciate more than just muscle cars now.

I feel the same way about the Corvette and F-type. The problem with striking designs is that they need to be updated often (not just mid-cycle refreshes). Look at Ferraris design lifespans or even how soon the refresh cycle for the Mazda6 occurred. In fact most cars are switching to shortened cycles
A car I didn’t like but now am loving is the Huracan.

The new Viper. When it first came out, I was all like “oooooooo, ahhhh!”. Then I realized that it was overpriced and (from what I’ve read since I never actually drove the thing), sacrificed too much of the original rawness for too little of modern tech.
Also, the MKIV Supra. It was my first unicorn car that I loved, but I slowly realized that while it’s a great car, it’s not the end all/be all of Japanese 90’s ‘super’ cars.

Mustang. Used to love them with child-like innocence, but now I see them for what they are: overhyped econoboxes posing as muscle cars.
(Disclaimer): I still love the GT350R

Love is strong word here. I liked this at one point. But as soon as it became the Civic of the supercar market and it was the answer to everything next to the Miata, hell no. I’m sick of seeing them every weekend, and I don’t understand why people still gawk at them.

Just curious, what makes them econoboxes?

When they tried to re-brand it with the ecoboost (which is still a great engine, i might add). It just ruined the “big numbers” scheme of things that we are used to seeing in the muscle car spectrum. Brave new world I guess.

I can see that. I was actually expecting something about the econobox interior quality.

Hard for me to nail down one specific car, but I’ll throw out kind of a catch all - higher end import cars. I’m talking stuff like BMW M cars, Mercedes AMG, Porsches, maybe even Aston Martin (though they are pushing supercar/exotic territory to me).
The thing is, I don’t dislike any of them, I’ve just stopped caring. I used to absolutely lose my mind if I saw something like an M5 or a 911 Turbo because it happened so rarely, maybe only a couple of times a year. Now I live in an area where I see that stuff daily. Hell, there’s a guy or gal who lives in the condo tower next to me, parking their brand new Aston V8 convertible on the street. ON THE STREET!!!

Weirdly I was the other way around. Once I learned the realities of earning a paycheck, the idea of affordable horsepower drew me in.

I think the scene overall progressed. Back in, say, 2002 you had to basically build a car yourself to get 400 hp. Now you just write a check.

So then it becomes a question of whether beauty is universal or relative. I say a little of both. If every third car was an Aston DB9, Astons would not be held in quite as high regard. But it would still be objectively good looking.

That’s a good question. I think Aston are good looking because they have that mathematical formula or whatever.

PT Cruiser.
I know, I know, but unlike most of you, I was of driving age wwhen it came out. It looked different from all the bland, boring cars around at the time. It had curves, and looked reminiscent of some of the classic cars from the 1940s.

Hmmm. See the issue is I don’t have any money, let alone enough to afford either. If I had to choose, it would be Z06 for the track, viper for picking up ladies (that get wooed by that sort of thing).

For me it’s usually the opposite. Some car that I’ve ignored or haven’t liked and all of a sudden I’m obsessed with it (Ford Fusion 2.0 AWD, Lexus IS-350 F-Sport, Hyundai Genesis Sedan).
The closest I’d probably get is the new WRX. It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just for the money I’d rather get something like a Golf R or a Fusion 2.0 AWD or anything else with a better interior even if it’s compromised on the overall handling compared to the WRX.
But I still don’t dislike it.

BMW, in general. I was a big fan before, when they made excellent sports sedans, but now they’re trying to be everything to everyone. They’re trying to be more than that, in fact, because I don’t know of anyone who ever asked for a four door version of a two door version of a four door car.

Pretty much everything Germany has built since about 1990. It’s a byproduct of working on them for most of two decades. Now I just want to play with Fords.

The E-Class Coupe. Back when this model came out the commercials made them look great and special, but now most of them are ruined with big rims and awful drivers.

Michigander here. While most kids my age grew up lusting after the imports of The Fast and The Furious and its video game copycats, my environment encouraged me to look to American brands.
At around 15, I really wanted an 80s Grand Prix for my first car. I had no idea of what utter pieces of junk the things were. Eventually I realized that it was FWD and never gave it another thought, but it wasn’t until years later that I finally understood all of the others reasons not to want that car.
I also thought the newer Grand Prix was pretty cool, though at that time it was beyond my budget. Still think it’s a decent-looking car for what it is, but I’d never own one.
